VP/SVP, Finance

Backstory is the leading AI answers platform for sales teams, helping organizations like OpenAI and IBM orchestrate deals and drive revenue through trusted, data-driven insights. We are seeking a strategic and hands-on VP/SVP of Finance to lead our financial operations, reporting directly to the CEO as we scale toward our next major growth milestone.

Key responsibilities

• Own the annual budget, rolling forecasts, and scenario modeling while partnering with department leaders to drive operational efficiency.
• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the executive team, preparing board materials and managing investor reporting.
• Oversee the full accounting function, including a timely monthly close, GAAP compliance, and internal controls.
• Develop pricing strategies and unit economics, specifically modeling revenue and margins for subscription and usage-based models.
• Manage cash flow, liquidity, and treasury operations while ensuring the company remains audit-ready for future financing events.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally within a B2B enterprise software company scaling from $50M to $100M ARR.
• Deep expertise in both FP&A and controllership, with a proven track record of connecting financial planning to business performance.
• Strong understanding of SaaS metrics, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and managing complex deal economics.
• A hands-on operator who is comfortable building and leading lean teams while diving into the details of modeling and financial analysis.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for executive leadership.
