VP of Engineering

Counterpart Group GmbH is building the first AI-native insurance company, dedicated to empowering small businesses through cutting-edge technology and expert underwriting. As the VP of Engineering, you will lead our flat-by-design engineering organization, shaping our technical vision and scaling our impact through advanced infrastructure and AI-driven systems.

Key responsibilities

• Evolve our flat engineering organization by leveraging AI to scale impact and retain high talent density.
• Partner with leadership to define how we build software in an AI-native world and ensure technical coherence across project teams.
• Own the infrastructure for developer experience, AI and data platforms, and system reliability.
• Manage hiring, performance, and talent development while ensuring engineering operations align with company goals.
• Represent our technology strategy to the board and ensure compliance with industry standards like SOC 2 and HIPAA.

Requirements

• 12+ years of engineering leadership experience, including navigating multiple company-stage transitions and board-level engagement.
• A strong, defensible point of view on AI-native engineering and its impact on software delivery economics.
• Deep technical fluency in system architecture, data infrastructure, and deployment pipelines.
• Proven ability to lead fully distributed teams with a focus on high trust and accountability.
• Experience in regulated industries such as insurance, fintech, or healthcare is a strong advantage.
