Technical Writer

Allen Control Systems is a defense startup focused on developing autonomous counter-drone technology. We are looking for a skilled Technical Writer to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, compliant documentation for our robotics and software systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers to document autonomous turret platforms, including computer vision, robotics hardware, and embedded software.
• Create operator manuals, user guides, maintenance procedures, and safety documentation for our counter-drone systems.
• Develop technical deliverables that meet DoD and MIL-SPEC standards, such as MIL-STD-40051 or S1000D.
• Support proposal efforts and contract deliverables by producing technical narratives and program documentation.
• Manage document version control and ensure consistency across all publications as our product evolves.

Requirements

• 3-7 years of experience in technical writing, specifically within defense, aerospace, or robotics sectors.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment with high autonomy.
• Familiarity with DoD documentation standards, ITAR compliance, and MIL-SPEC writing guidelines.
• Experience managing technical illustrations, system diagrams, and schematics for complex hardware.
• Proficiency in documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MS Office, and Confluence.
