Responsibilities:
Managing requirements
• Ensure strong understanding of business objectives and problem statements of each initiative before requirements gathering. Support the product manager to reframe the problem where required.
• Run structured workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions to understand business needs and gather detailed requirements.
• Translate findings into documented high quality user stories, with clear and testable acceptance criteria, thoroughly covering happy paths, unhappy paths, exceptions, and edge cases using FSCS standard frameworks.
• Ensure requirements are fully understood, validated, and signed off by SMEs, FSCS Technical Design Authority (TDA) and other key stakeholders before development starts.
• Ensure ‘security by design’ and ‘data by design’ approach (enabling early engagement for requirements and impact analysis)
Agile Delivery Support
• Work closely with the Product Manager and Engineering Manager to ensure requirements are well defined, prioritised appropriately, and aligned to business outcomes, prioritised appropriately, and aligned to business outcomes
• Prepare high quality analysis that supports and enables informed prioritisation decision making using ICE framework (e.g. effort /ease).
• Support and facilitate backlog refinement sessions, ensuring stories are ready for estimation and development.
• Carry out scrum team ceremonies to help ensure the smooth running of the sprint team and help to remove blockers for members of the team during sprints. Assist in running sprint planning meetings with the Product Manager.
Testing, Quality Assurance & Delivery Readiness
• Work closely with testers and UAT participants to ensure test cases reflect business rules, scenarios, and acceptance criteria.
• Provide clarification during development and testing, helping triage and resolve issues quickly.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
• Build strong relationships with operational teams, SMEs, Product Managers, Engineering Managers, testers and engineers and project stakeholders.
• Clearly communicate analysis outputs, recommendations, risks, and process impacts.
• Support product manager in sprint goal and release comms.
Requirements:
• Significant experience as a Technical Business Analyst working on operational process improvements and software development in Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid delivery environments.
• Skilled in running workshops, discovery sessions, and interviews to gather and validate requirements.
• The Technical Business Analyst role must have significant experience working day to day with technical engineers (e.g., software developers, QA engineers, DevOps, solution architects), with a strong understanding of technical concepts, constraints, and delivery practices—without requiring hands on coding skills or system architecture expertise.
• Ability to capture requirements and produce high quality user stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria.
• Capable of documenting happy/unhappy paths, exceptions, and business rules to support development and testing.
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams, including user story refinement, backlog readiness, and close collaboration with Product and Engineering.
• Deep knowledge of business analysis best practices, tools, and techniques, and able to demonstrate them in practice.
• Experience working collaboratively across Operations, Compliance, Risk, Legal, IT, and other cross functional teams to resolve ambiguity and drive clarity.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives in a fast paced environment.
• Experience in software development within a highly regulated industry (essential) and financial services (desirable), including working with compliance, risk, and regulatory constraints such as policy, rules, and legislation.
• Experience supporting UAT or structured testing, including guiding test case creation.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and extract insights.
• Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complexity and work effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
• Ability to understand the bigger picture (end to end journeys, service impacts) while managing detailed analysis.
• Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
• Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis, Certified Business Analysis Professional or equivalent.
• Project management qualifications – desirable.
