Glydways is revolutionizing public transit by creating a network of carbon-neutral, autonomous vehicles designed to provide accessible and efficient mobility. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to own the Cabin Experience, the critical in-vehicle interface that riders interact with throughout their journey.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end design, implementation, and reliability of the Cabin UX application, including server-rendered UI and NestJS services.
- Build rider-facing interfaces optimized for embedded displays that remain functional and intuitive under varying lighting and motion conditions.
- Integrate real-time WebRTC communication for audio/video connections between the cabin and operators.
- Manage vehicle telemetry and fleet state data, ensuring the system remains responsive even with intermittent connectivity or stale data.
- Collaborate with design, compute, and network teams to deploy software to edge compute hardware and ensure a seamless rider experience.
Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS, with a preference for hypermedia-driven architectures like HTMX.
- Production experience with Node.js backends, specifically NestJS on Fastify, and server-side templating.
- Hands-on experience with WebRTC, media capture, and diagnosing quality issues on unreliable networks.
- Experience shipping web-native or embedded UI on Linux-based or tablet hardware, including managing power and display constraints.
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards, internationalization, and designing for public-facing, unattended use.
What we offer
- The opportunity to own a critical product component with a direct impact on public transit infrastructure.
- A collaborative environment working at the intersection of hardware, networking, and user experience design.
- The chance to mentor engineers and define best practices for rider-facing and on-vehicle software development.
