Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Card)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead our backend efforts for card products in the EU, working on complex transaction processing, ledgering, and reconciliation systems.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a long-term scale and align it with critical business projects.
• Act as the lead software engineer for all card-related initiatives in the EU.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks.
• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes to act as a force-multiplier.
• Foster a culture of quality by setting high standards for code reviews and system design.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Proficiency in designing and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in developing frontend applications.
• Proven track record of delivering major features and system components through clear execution plans.
• Strong communication skills to support effective collaboration within a global engineering team.
