Staff Engineer, Software (R6331)

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company dedicated to protecting service members and civilians through intelligent systems. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Enterprise Software Engineering team, where you will design and build the critical applications, services, and integrations that power our business operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain enterprise applications and APIs using C#/.NET and React, while integrating AI capabilities into internal tools.
• Architect and implement distributed, event-driven systems using message brokers like RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Azure Service Bus.
• Develop reliable integrations between enterprise systems, managing complex workflows, retries, and failure recovery.
• Apply advanced system design patterns such as Saga, CQRS, and idempotent consumers to ensure scalable and resilient solutions.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers on design and code reviews while leading projects to deliver measurable business impact.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep expertise in C# and .NET.
• Proven experience building frontends with React and TypeScript.
• Hands-on knowledge of messaging architectures and event-driven design patterns.
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms, specifically Azure or AWS, including security, networking, and identity management.
• Experience with relational databases, CI/CD practices, and a strong discipline in testing and code quality.
