Staff Engineer, Development Lifecycle

Canonical is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the initiative of optimizing Ubuntu for mission-critical applications in highly regulated sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and industrial robotics. You will drive engineering excellence by transforming complex regulatory demands into concrete practices, shaping the company's engineering culture, and ensuring that open-source software meets the highest industry standards for compliance and certification.

Key responsibilities

• Lead efforts to align Ubuntu with rigorous industrial standards and certification requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership to define and implement continuous improvement processes.
• Establish methods for measuring quality and defining engineering KPIs.
• Build strategic relationships with external working groups, committees, and industry partners.
• Mentor and grow engineering teams to internalize high-quality development practices.

Requirements

• Strong experience in engineering and process management within an agile environment.
• Knowledge or certification in software quality standards such as ISO/IEC 25010 or ASPICE.
• Proven track record of leading successful compliance and certification efforts.
• Deep experience with Linux and a passion for open-source software.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and grow high-performing teams.
