Staff Engineer, AI Operations & Governance, Workplace AI (R5428)

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company dedicated to protecting service members and civilians through intelligent systems. We are seeking a Staff Engineer to join our Workplace AI team, focusing on the technical operations and governance of our AI infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain AI platform configurations, including models, routes, guardrails, and prompt libraries.
• Manage connectors and integrations into SaaS systems and data sources to ensure secure and reliable connectivity.
• Establish observability wiring by setting up logging, metrics, and alerts for AI workflows.
• Handle secrets management, access hygiene, and role mappings in partnership with Security and IT teams.
• Execute production changes, including model swaps and policy updates, while maintaining detailed change records.
• Translate technical performance data into clear risk and compliance narratives for stakeholders.

Requirements

• 4–7+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or ML/AI operations.
• Strong fluency in APIs, infrastructure-as-code, and working within JSON/YAML configuration environments.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring tools to diagnose issues and drive system improvements.
• Practical knowledge of AI platforms, LLM providers, or workflow automation engines.
• Proven ability to document technical decisions for both technical and non-technical audiences.
