Staff Database Engineer II

Housecall Pro is looking for a Staff Database Engineer II to join our global Site Reliability Engineering team. You will play a critical role in improving the performance, reliability, security, and scalability of our database systems while supporting home service professionals through innovative technical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain secure, reliable, and scalable database schemas and storage systems.
• Optimize MySQL and PostgreSQL databases for performance, stability, and efficient resource utilization.
• Develop and implement database scaling strategies, including replication, partitioning, and sharding.
• Partner with engineering teams to improve schema designs, queries, data migrations, and application integrations.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production databases, resolving issues that affect availability and data integrity.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and managing relational database systems in complex production environments.
• Deep knowledge of database architecture, data modeling, indexing, transactions, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience optimizing and supporting MySQL, PostgreSQL, or comparable relational database technologies.
• Experience with database backup, recovery, high availability, and scaling strategies.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
