Staff Backend Engineer - Submission Processing (Europe)

Kalepa is building the AI operating system for the $7T insurance industry, creating professional-grade systems that reason, decide, and act within complex workflows. As a Staff Backend Engineer on our Submission Processing team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and scaling LLM-based systems that process billions of unstructured data points to drive high-stakes decision-making.

Key responsibilities

• Design and architect robust systems to process and extract precise information from massive datasets.
• Lead technical direction for the team, making critical architectural decisions under ambiguity.
• Build and scale LLM-based production systems that deliver measurable impact for leading insurers.
• Collaborate closely with a high-performing team to solve complex, novel challenges in the insurance sector.
• Take full ownership of end-to-end outcomes, from initial experimentation to deployment at scale.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong fundamentals in system design.
• Proven experience deploying and scaling LLMs in production environments.
• Proficiency in Python and experience working with relational databases like PostgreSQL.
• Strong background in AWS, serverless technologies, and asynchronous workflows.
• A relentless, experimental mindset with the ability to drive projects to completion independently.
