Staff Backend Engineer - Core Product (Europe)

Kalepa is building an AI operating system for the insurance industry, creating professional-grade systems that read, reason, and act within complex workflows. We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Core Product team and help us transform a $7T global industry by building reliable, high-value data systems and intelligence layers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement robust backend services, data models, and processing pipelines.
• Develop evaluation loops to ensure our AI systems make transparent and explainable decisions.
• Take full ownership of business-critical infrastructure from design to production.
• Collaborate with a high-performing team to solve complex, novel problems in the insurance sector.
• Iterate quickly on system architecture to improve data completeness and decision-making speed.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and complex problem-solving.
• Proficiency in Python or extensive experience in other object-oriented languages.
• Experience with cloud environments, serverless technologies, and asynchronous workflows.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• A proactive mindset with the ability to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
