Staff Applied AI Engineer

StackBlitz is the team behind WebContainers and Bolt.new, a next-gen, AI-powered builder that allows users to create, edit, and deploy full-stack applications directly in the browser. We are a globally distributed, fully remote team dedicated to reimagining software development by lowering barriers to entry and speeding up workflows for millions of developers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of our AI agent systems, establishing patterns and frameworks for context management and workflow orchestration.
• Drive our multi-provider strategy by evaluating models from partners like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google to optimize performance.
• Architect foundational systems for tool use, enabling AI agents to interact safely with external APIs and domain-specific operations.
• Partner with engineering, product, and design teams to align AI initiatives with business objectives and mentor senior engineers.
• Define methodologies for data collection and build evaluation harnesses to turn insights into systematic improvements.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience building and scaling production AI systems with a deep understanding of LLM capabilities.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with proficiency in TypeScript and the ability to design scalable, maintainable systems.
• Deep expertise in prompt engineering and the ability to establish best practices across the organization.
• Proven ability to drive ambiguous, high-scope technical problems to completion with minimal oversight.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration.
