Software Engineer, Payment Operations

Wingspan is a Series B startup building the first payroll platform specifically designed for independent contractors and their businesses. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Payment Operations team and ensure that every transaction on our platform is accurate, reconciled, and processed on time.

Key responsibilities

• Design and ship internal systems and automation to eliminate operational toil, owning problems from diagnosis to permanent resolution.
• Build and maintain reconciliation infrastructure to keep our ledger, bank records, and transaction data in continuous alignment.
• Develop real-time monitoring and alerting systems to identify funding health issues and payment anomalies before they impact customers.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Finance teams to translate operational patterns into platform-level improvements.
• Contribute to our engineering culture through code reviews and proactive knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in software engineering or related roles with exposure to payment systems, backend services, or data pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills and comfort with writing standalone scripts and utilizing AI-assisted development tools.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend services, with Node.js and TypeScript experience considered a plus.
• High level of autonomy and accountability, with a proven ability to thrive in fast-moving environments.
