Software Engineer, Layer1

Arista Networks is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our Layer1 team, focusing on the critical physical layer where data packets meet the outside world. You will develop control software for a wide range of connectivity solutions, from 1GBASE-T connectors to high-speed 400G long-reach optics, ensuring reliable performance across diverse hardware platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design, and manage the development of innovative Layer1 features.
• Develop and maintain robust code using C, C++, and Python while contributing to functional and design specifications.
• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring new components like Phys and Transceivers to market.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers within the software development environment.
• Analyze and resolve complex issues in customer networks in collaboration with support teams.

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in C or C++ and Python.
• Solid understanding of UNIX or Linux operating systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to design and implement features independently.
• Applied understanding of software engineering principles and software troubleshooting.
