Software Engineer III, Core Experiences

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking two Software Engineer III professionals to join the App Growth and Moderator Tools engineering teams. You will contribute to building impactful web-first experiences that support Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, reaching millions of users globally.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement moderately complex features and components with minimal support.
• Take ownership of bug fixes, production issues, and overall software quality.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to break down complex tasks and anticipate technical risks.
• Contribute to code reviews, design discussions, and technical planning to improve team workflows.
• Ensure features are built with observability, performance, and accessibility as core considerations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in web application development.
• Proficiency in backend languages like PHP or Python and/or frontend JavaScript frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver testable, user-friendly features in a collaborative environment.
• Experience building responsive, mobile-first web experiences and converting design mockups into functional code.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical ideas to diverse audiences.
