Site Reliability Engineer

Databento is a modern market data platform providing real-time and historical data across futures, options, and equities through a unified API. We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join our Backend Engineering team and take ownership of the uptime, performance, and observability of our platform.

Key responsibilities

• Own uptime, SLAs, and SLOs across our API and platform services while setting operational best practices.
• Build and maintain comprehensive observability across logging, metrics, and tracing systems.
• Design and implement high-availability deployment and containerization strategies.
• Profile and optimize Python applications to improve throughput, latency, and cost-efficiency.
• Lead incident response, participate in on-call rotations, and conduct thorough post-incident reviews.

Requirements

• Proven experience in SRE, DevOps, or backend engineering within high-growth environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python, including application development and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or Jaeger.
• Deep familiarity with Linux debugging and profiling tools like strace, perf, eBPF, and gdb.
• Experience with containerization and high-availability deployment technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
