Senior Software Engineer, Layer1

Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team focused on Layer1 software, where you will manage the physical layer of network connectivity. You will develop control software for a wide range of hardware, from 1GBASE-T connectors to 400G long-reach optics, ensuring reliable performance across diverse forwarding engines and interface chips.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design, and manage the development of innovative Layer1 features.
• Develop and maintain software using C, C++, and Python, while contributing to functional and design specifications.
• Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring new components like Phys and transceivers to market.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers within the software development environment.
• Analyze and resolve complex problems in customer networks in collaboration with support teams.

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
• Expert knowledge of C, C++, and Python programming languages.
• Strong understanding of UNIX or Linux operating systems.
• Applied knowledge of software engineering principles and robust problem-solving skills.
• Ability to design solutions and implement features independently within small, collaborative teams.
