Senior Software Engineer, Control Plane

Starburst is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our globally distributed Control Plane team. You will play a pivotal role in unifying our flagship deployment models, Starburst Enterprise and Starburst Galaxy, into a single, high-performance platform that operates at a global scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain core control plane services that power Starburst Enterprise, Starburst Galaxy, and Trino.
• Unify product capabilities such as access control, multi-cluster management, and observability into a single implementation.
• Own the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of backend services, including provisioning APIs and cluster lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with global teams to build software that functions seamlessly across SaaS environments and customer-operated deployments.
• Improve engineering processes, testing frameworks, and system architecture to ensure long-term scalability and productivity.

Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in Java development and distributed systems architecture.
• Proven track record of building and operating backend services, APIs, and control loops.
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure and orchestration across major providers like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with software engineering best practices and a commitment to writing maintainable, high-quality code.
• Ability to work with autonomy and a strong sense of ownership, grit, and bias for action.
