Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card Acquisition)

Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Card Acquisition team within the Consumer organization. You will play a critical role in shaping the first experience customers have with Affirm, focusing on building trust, clarity, and value while defining long-term technical strategy and mentoring team members.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals while leading engineers through ambiguity to solve complex, open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to articulate technical constraints and make informed decisions regarding risks and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify and resolve project, process, or technical issues to improve team efficiency.
• Ensure operational excellence by maintaining robust monitoring, testing, and alerting systems to support service availability.
• Foster a culture of high-quality engineering by setting standards for code reviews and design, while mentoring team members to support their professional growth.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Proven track record of building highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features with an emphasis on elegant, simple, and extensible design.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration within a global engineering team.
• Ability to make significant changes in large codebases safely through the use of effective tools and testing practices.
