HeadSpin is seeking a highly experienced Senior Microsoft Windows SQL Server DBA to take ownership of our enterprise database environments and drive application performance excellence. In this senior-level role, you will serve as the subject matter expert for SQL Server platforms, leading performance engineering initiatives, mentoring junior team members, and acting as the primary escalation point for critical incidents.
Key responsibilities
- Architect, install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances across complex, multi-server Windows environments.
- Lead end-to-end application performance engineering by analyzing execution plans and identifying problematic queries.
- Design, implement, and test robust backup, recovery, and HA/DR strategies, including Always On Availability Groups.
- Govern database security through role-based access controls and encryption strategies.
- Drive automation of routine DBA tasks using PowerShell and SQL Agent.
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in large-scale, mission-critical production environments.
- Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2019/2025 on Windows Server.
- Advanced T-SQL skills, including query optimization, index design, and performance troubleshooting.
- Deep expertise in application performance tuning and resolving complex lock contention or blocking chains.
- Proven experience with Always On Availability Groups, WSFC, and disaster recovery planning.
- Strong command of Wait Statistics, DMVs, Extended Events, and Query Store.
