Senior Backend Engineer (R&D)

Moniepoint is a leading financial platform in Africa, providing essential banking, payment, and business management tools to millions of users. We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for our Research & Development team to take full ownership of complex technical problems and deliver robust, production-ready systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable, reliable, and observable production-grade systems.
• Own projects from initial problem definition through design, implementation, deployment, and ongoing operations.
• Work across diverse domains including application services, distributed systems, infrastructure, and data pipelines.
• Debug complex production issues across multiple layers of the technology stack.
• Apply machine learning techniques where appropriate to solve specific business challenges effectively.

Requirements

• Strong foundation in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, networking, and distributed systems.
• Proven experience building and maintaining production systems at scale.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, or Rust.
• Deep understanding of Linux, containerization, and Kubernetes environments.
• Ability to make sound engineering trade-offs based on first-principles thinking.
