Senior Backend Engineer (Kotlin / Java)

Fourthwall is a product company empowering creatives, brands, and startups to run shops, memberships, and donations on their own terms. We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team and help us scale our comprehensive e-commerce platform, which handles everything from product design and manufacturing to payments and tax reconciliation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain our core backend services using Kotlin, Spring Boot, and jOOQ.
• Participate in the backend on-call rotation to ensure system reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, build, and ship new features.
• Utilize coding agents to accelerate development and improve our internal tooling.
• Take ownership of large areas of responsibility, from schema design to production rollout.

Requirements

• Proven experience with Kotlin or Java on a Spring backend in production environments.
• Strong understanding of SQL and the ability to optimize database interactions.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs with a focus on idempotency and error handling.
• Ability to analyze system performance, costs, and failure modes for queries and background jobs.
• Excellent written English communication skills.
