Senior Backend Developer (Services) - Relocation to Cyprus

payabl. is seeking a Senior Python Backend Developer to join our engineering team and contribute to the evolution of our service layer architecture. This role focuses on designing and building reliable, scalable microservices while transforming legacy systems into modern, maintainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Extract business logic from legacy codebases and reimplement it within a modern microservices architecture.
• Ensure high standards of idempotency, data integrity, and graceful error handling across all services.
• Design and consume external APIs with a deep understanding of webhooks, callbacks, and complex retry policies.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in an agile environment to deliver high-quality features.
• Contribute to infrastructure improvements, including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Python expertise and deep AsyncIO proficiency.
• Production-grade experience with FastAPI.
• Solid understanding of database design, schema management, and migration strategies using MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Strong testing discipline with experience in writing unit and integration tests using pytest.
• Excellent English communication skills for effective collaboration in a global team.
