Senior Backend Developer (freelance)

Intent is an AI-native company specializing in designing and co-creating connected devices, wearables, and health-tech hardware. We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join us on a freelance basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent role, to own the technical direction and architecture of our IoT projects.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve backend architecture for IoT projects, including data ingestion pipelines and API design.
• Design and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS with production-grade reliability.
• Lead technical discussions, including architecture reviews and RFCs, to drive project success.
• Mentor other engineers and set high standards for code quality and patterns.
• Challenge product and technical assumptions to ensure robust, scalable solutions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend development experience with a focus on technical leadership.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and deep, hands-on expertise with AWS services like EKS, Aurora, and DynamoDB.
• Proven experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform in production environments.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and IoT messaging protocols.
• Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to stakeholders.
