Senior Back-end Engineer - PHP, commerce pillar (6-month contract, remote)

FYUL is seeking a Senior Back-End Software Engineer for a 6-month assignment to join our Payments sub-team. You will serve as a critical bridge between our technology infrastructure and financial stakeholders, focusing on e-commerce operations such as tax calculations, VAT processing, and invoicing systems to ensure precise and compliant financial data.

Key responsibilities

• Write and ship high-quality, scalable code while identifying areas for improvement across the codebase.
• Work closely with product managers and stakeholders, applying product thinking to every technical decision.
• Contribute actively to the team through code reviews, refactoring, testing, and pair programming.
• Take ownership of the design and execution of initiatives, driving prioritized bug fixes and platform improvements.
• Engage in knowledge-sharing activities and continuously develop technical and soft skills.

Requirements

• 5+ years in back-end development with proficiency in PHP or Node.js and a willingness to learn the other.
• Strong expertise in high-load architecture, Distributed Systems, Domain-Driven Design, and CQRS.
• Solid background in software engineering principles including SOLID, TDD, CI/CD, and Agile.
• Comfortable using LLMs as a partner for architectural brainstorming and code generation.
• Product-minded approach with a strong sense of ownership and excellent English communication skills.
