Senior Applied AI/ML Scientist (B2B)

NewsWhip by Sprout Social is seeking a Senior Applied AI/ML Scientist to join our AI, Data, and Intelligence Business Unit. You will work at the intersection of product, data, and engineering, building advanced LLM-powered systems that process millions of signals in real time to provide predictive intelligence for global brands and journalists.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and deliver production agentic workflows, including both ambient background agents and interactive user-facing tools.
• Lead the technical direction for tool-augmented LLM systems, including function-calling patterns and multi-step reasoning.
• Define standards for LLM evaluation, including offline benchmarks, online experimentation, and human-in-the-loop review.
• Build observability into LLM features, focusing on tracing, cost tracking, latency budgets, and drift monitoring.
• Evolve semantic search infrastructure, including chunking strategies, hybrid search, and re-ranking.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building and operating production software systems.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience shipping LLM-powered features in real-world applications.
• Strong backend engineering skills, with a preference for Python.
• Proven track record of owning a system end-to-end in production.
• Experience making and defending architectural trade-offs regarding model choice and system design.
