Remote Shopify Developer

Coalition Technologies is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Remote Shopify Developer to build, customize, optimize, and maintain high-performing eCommerce websites on the Shopify platform. This role is ideal for someone with strong experience in Shopify theme development, Liquid, custom sections, reusable front-end components, Storefront GraphQL API, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, responsive design, and performance optimization.

As a Shopify Developer, you will develop custom Shopify themes, build reusable sections and components, migrate websites from other eCommerce platforms, integrate third-party apps, optimize site performance, and support SEO and CRO best practices across Shopify websites.

We are looking for talented and diligent candidates who perform well on our skills assessments. Strong skills test performance may be considered even if a candidate does not meet every preferred experience or educational background requirement.

Shopify Developer Responsibilities

As a Shopify Developer, your duties will include:

• Building custom Shopify sections, blocks, and reusable front-end components to enhance site functionality and user experience

• Optimizing and extending core Shopify theme features with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability

• Using the Shopify Storefront GraphQL API to implement advanced features beyond standard Liquid capabilities

• Integrating and customizing third-party apps and platform-supported extensions within Shopify themes and checkout experiences

• Staying current with Shopify platform updates, tools, and development best practices

• Communicating clearly with team leads, project managers, and designers to align on project goals, timelines, and deliverables

• Taking initiative by suggesting improvements, sharing feedback, and identifying opportunities to improve workflows and project outcomes

• Developing eCommerce websites on the Shopify platform

• Developing and customizing Shopify themes

• Migrating websites from other eCommerce platforms to Shopify

• Extending Shopify functionality using Storefront APIs, Liquid programming, metafields, metaobjects, and related Shopify tools

• Setting up payment integrations, shipping methods, taxes, and other Shopify configurations

• Optimizing Shopify websites for page speed, performance, SEO, and conversion rate optimization

• Transforming complex PSD layouts into pixel-perfect HTML5/CSS3 templates

• Creating responsive, cross-browser-compatible website designs

• Working with version control systems such as Git or SVN

• Managing multiple projects and deadlines at the same time

• Producing high-quality work with strong attention to detail

• Thoroughly QA’ing work before submission
  

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Shopify website development

• Strong knowledge of the Shopify platform

• Experience creating custom sections from scratch and developing reusable front-end components within Shopify themes

• Expertise in Shopify theme development and customization

• Expert-level knowledge of Shopify Liquid templating language

• Advanced knowledge of Shopify Metafields, Metaobjects, and the Shopify Search & Discovery app

• Familiarity with Shopify CLI for efficient theme development and deployment

• Proficiency with the Shopify Storefront GraphQL API

• Experience working with Shopify JS APIs, including Storefront, AJAX Cart, Sections, and related APIs

• Expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and ECMAScript

• Experience with JavaScript libraries such as jQuery

• Strong understanding of responsive web design techniques

• Thorough understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues

• Understanding of W3C web standards, semantic HTML, and accessibility guidelines

• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to clearly discuss ideas, technical concepts, and feedback

• Proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and ownership of your work

• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time

• Great attention to detail and an organized work style

Preferred Skills

The following experience is preferred but not required:

• Shopify Certification

• Understanding of both Shopify Admin API and Storefront API layers

• Knowledge of SCSS

• Experience with WordPress, Magento, and BigCommerce

• Experience with Ruby

• Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, and AJAX

• Experience integrating third-party Shopify apps and extensions

• Experience with Shopify SEO, CRO, site speed optimization, and performance improvements

Remote Work Environment

Our team works remotely with the support of time tracking software, structured communication, and a company culture designed to help remote team members succeed. Compensation

For candidates located in California, New York, Washington, and Colorado, the starting base pay for this position ranges from $17 to $35 per hour. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills test performance, geographic location, and seniority of the position offered. For candidates outside of California, New York, Washington, and Colorado, compensation may fall outside the listed range.
