Principal Backend Engineer – Casino

Hard Rock Digital is a dynamic company focused on becoming the premier global destination for online sportsbooks, casino gaming, and social entertainment. We are seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to join our growing Casino Technology Team, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture and technical direction of our high-traffic applications.

Key responsibilities

• Set the technical direction and architecture for complex, cross-team systems while contributing to the design and implementation of key features.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to Engineering Managers and Product Managers, influencing roadmaps and architectural decisions.
• Mentor Staff and Senior Engineers, performing code reviews and coaching team members on best practices.
• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development tools to enhance engineering velocity and overall code quality.
• Ensure the quality, scope, and timeliness of all technical deliverables within a fast-paced, startup-minded environment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and a passion for evolving engineering workflows.
• Deep understanding of AWS Cloud technologies and the ability to design scalable, multi-region applications.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and RDBMS (PostgreSQL, CockroachDB).
• Experience with streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis), message queues, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
