Node Architect - Freelance

Netguru is a trusted partner in digital commerce, helping leading brands modernize B2B solutions and retail ecosystems. We are currently seeking a Staff Node.js Developer with a focus on architecture to join our team as a freelancer, working on high-impact projects for global clients.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze existing multi-product architectures to understand current structures and propose strategic improvements.
• Deliver evidence-based assessments of code and design quality, focusing on security, capacity risks, and system coupling.
• Write and review RFCs and ADRs for new and evolving systems, ensuring failure modes and security are explicitly addressed.
• Design extend-vs-rebuild solutions with clear migration paths, focusing on incremental and reversible changes.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to address complex constraints like multi-currency payments, fraud prevention, and high-traffic scaling.

Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in software engineering with a strong focus on system design and architecture.
• Ability to anticipate scaling limits and design services using patterns that minimize cross-service dependencies.
• Deep understanding of secure-by-default habits, including OWASP Top 10, secrets management, and input validation.
• Strong written English skills for effective asynchronous collaboration via RFCs and technical reviews.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to argue technical points using reasoning and trade-offs rather than seniority.
