Manager, Machine Learning Engineering, Checkout

Affirm is looking for a Machine Learning Engineering Manager to join our International Credit Machine Learning group. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers dedicated to building models that power credit lending decisions across Europe and Australia, helping to shape the future of machine learning at our company.

Key responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for your team and align it with business-impacting projects within our underwriting system.
• Act as a force multiplier by defining technical solutions and establishing efficient operational processes.
• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and risk teams to ensure technical sustainability and manage project trade-offs.
• Develop talent by providing consistent feedback, mentorship, and guidance to your engineering team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field with over 8 years of industry experience, including at least 3 years in engineering management.
• Proven background in financial services, specifically within credit or lending sectors.
• Proficiency in machine learning, including experience with tree-based models, transformers, deep learning, and agentic ML.
• Strong engineering skills with the ability to provide hands-on technical leadership across code and architecture.
