Data Engineer II

Horace Mann is seeking a skilled Data Engineer II to join our team in a fully remote capacity. In this mid-level role, you will design, develop, and maintain robust software applications and business processes, working both independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive technical excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and analysis to deployment and ongoing support.
• Maintain and enhance applications through upgrades, troubleshooting, and defect resolution to ensure high performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to implement and refine CI/CD practices for stable and repeatable software releases.
• Partner with business users to clarify requirements and develop innovative solutions for process improvements.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to team training initiatives to foster professional growth within the department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 2-4 years of experience in software development, requirements analysis, and coding.
• Proficiency in technologies such as Snowflake, DBT, SQL Server, Python, ADO, Power BI, and R.
• Advanced understanding of software development lifecycles and modern programming languages.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
