Backend Software Engineer (Rust, Fully Remote)

MetalBear is a remote-first, early-stage company building mirrord, a Kubernetes development platform that allows developers and AI agents to run code against live clusters. By enabling services to interact with real traffic and cloud resources without the need for full deployments, we significantly accelerate development cycles for thousands of engineers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute production-grade Rust code to create, manage, and adapt cloud resources.
• Collaborate with a world-class engineering team on architecture, feature design, and infrastructure.
• Engage directly with users to gather requirements, develop solutions, and debug complex issues.
• Utilize AI tools effectively to deliver high-quality code and improve development velocity.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience, including at least 1 year of production-grade Rust.
• Strong systems-level thinking with the ability to debug complex, distributed environments.
• Comfort working asynchronously in a remote-first startup environment.
• Deep familiarity with cloud-native technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with backend infrastructure tooling such as datastores and message brokers.
• Location based between UTC-5 and UTC+4.
