Backend Engineer (Python)

Nettle is a VC-backed insurtech company transforming how commercial insurers assess risk by leveraging AI to increase speed and consistency. We are currently seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to join our team and help build the core engine of our platform, which processes site evidence into comprehensive risk assessment reports for global enterprise carriers.

Key responsibilities

• Own backend features from end to end, including data modeling, API development, production deployment, and monitoring.
• Develop and optimize asynchronous AI pipelines using Celery to process evidence and generate reports at scale.
• Implement LLM-powered features, focusing on prompt design, structured outputs, and confidence handling.
• Maintain high code quality through rigorous testing and review processes while ensuring rapid delivery.
• Utilize advanced AI development tools to maximize productivity and maintain a high output level.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional backend development experience with a strong focus on Python.
• Solid understanding of relational databases and clean API design principles.
• Proven experience working with asynchronous task queues like Celery in production environments.
• Pragmatic, self-directed mindset with the ability to communicate clearly in English.
• Ability to own features independently and see them through to production.
