Backend Engineer

micro1 is seeking skilled Backend Engineers to contribute to an innovative project focused on training next-generation AI systems. In this role, you will apply your server-side development expertise to create reinforcement learning environments that test AI models on complex software engineering tasks, including debugging, API development, and data handling.

Key responsibilities

• Develop clear code samples and debugging approaches in languages such as Python3, Java, Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve backend bugs, data handling issues, and performance bottlenecks.
• Build and maintain features, including APIs and database logic, while adhering to high coding standards.
• Refine existing backend code and database queries to enhance overall system efficiency and reliability.
• Document your technical reasoning and decision-making processes to ensure high-quality training data for AI models.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience in Python3, Java, Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of API design, database management (SQL or NoSQL), and core data structures.
• Proven ability to debug backend issues, identify root causes, and implement clean, effective fixes.
• Comfortable navigating diverse codebases and quickly adapting to unfamiliar technical systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical decisions.
