Backend Engineer (Europe)

Kalepa is building the AI operating system for the insurance industry, creating professional-grade systems that read, reason, and act within complex workflows. We are looking for a talented Backend Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of high-impact AI solutions that drive measurable outcomes for leading insurers.

Key responsibilities

• Own and develop backend services, data pipelines, and ML infrastructure.
• Build and improve systems that ingest, process, and reason over large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
• Collaborate with full-stack, ML, and platform engineers to design, build, and operate production systems at scale.
• Take end-to-end ownership of technical solutions, ensuring high standards of code quality and system performance.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in shipping production systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and solid fundamentals in at least one other programming language.
• Experience working with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Practical knowledge of AWS and asynchronous or serverless workflows.
• Ability to design and build data-driven microservices leveraging RESTful APIs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to working with ambiguity.
