AI Engineer - Ruby on Rails

OnTheGoSystems is seeking a skilled AI Engineer with deep Ruby on Rails expertise to help build and scale production-ready AI-assisted features. This role is perfect for an engineer who understands how to bridge the gap between experimental AI workflows and reliable, maintainable software systems.

Key responsibilities

• Designing and building AI/LLM-assisted product features from technical design to production.
• Integrating LLM APIs into Ruby on Rails systems while ensuring business logic, security, and performance.
• Improving system reliability, accuracy, and latency through rigorous testing and debugging.
• Writing and maintaining comprehensive automated tests, including unit, integration, and E2E suites.
• Balancing AI implementation with standard engineering practices to ensure long-term maintainability.

Requirements

• Practical experience building with AI/LLM technologies, including prompt engineering and retrieval patterns.
• Strong Ruby on Rails experience, ideally at a senior level, with a focus on backend architecture.
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems into clear, actionable technical solutions.
• Strong backend skills, including database management, API design, and background job processing.
• Good judgment regarding when to apply AI versus simpler, traditional engineering solutions.
